Liverpool Cathedral hosts a 10-hour Organathon

It’s the largest organ in the UK – bigger even than the instrument in the Royal Albert Hall.

And on Saturday you can hear it played for no fewer than 10 hours, as Liverpool Cathedral holds a day-long Mega Organathon.

The musical spectacular is an attempt to help raise the last £300,000 needed towards a £900,000 Organ Appeal to rebuild the cathedral’s world-famous 10,268-pipe Willis Organ.

Organisers also hope to collect funds for the cathedral choir’s tour to Texas, which is taking place later this year.

A team of cathedral organists will play between 8am and 6pm on Saturday, with visitors being able to enjoy a selection of organ classics and favourite hymns.

Professor Dr Ian Tracey, Organist Titulaire at Liverpool Cathedral, said: “You can sponsor us by donating at our Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/lccf/grandorgan or find more information about the organ at www.liverpoolcathedral.org.uk, along with details of the Grand Organ Appeal.

“All gifts, no matter how small, will enable us to return one of the greatest instruments in the world to pristine condition for future generations to continue to marvel at.”
