Marc Almond says hello to Liverpool Pride
Singer Marc Almond has been announced as the headliner for this year's Liverpool Pride.
The Southport-born New Wave star will perform on the Pride stage in William Brown Street as part of the eighth annual celebration.
Almond had a series of hits with Soft Cell including Say Hello Wave Goodbye, Bedsitter, Torch, and the chart-topping Tainted Love.
He is currently working on a new solo album for release in September, coinciding with a 20-date UK tour.
The 59-year-old says: "I was born near enough to Liverpool for it to feel like a home city for me.
"It feels very special to be opening and headlining this year’s Pride. Liverpool is famous for being a diverse, friendly, tolerant city so I hope that many people will come and have a good time and support the event.”
The theme of 2017 Pride is International Love, and it complements the city-wide season of events and performances to mark the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love.
Events are centred around the St George's Quarter.
The annual Pride March takes place on Saturday, July 29, while Sunday, July 30 sees the return of the We Are Family fun day.
