Calling all Cillas - a new musical needs you

Could the star of a new stage show celebrating the life of Cilla Black come from Liverpool?

Auditions are being held in the city next month to try and find a young performer to play the Scottie Road star in Cilla - The Musical, which will have its world premiere at the Empire.

The event, on May 2, is one of four days of auditions taking place across the country. The others are in Edinburgh, Birmingham and at London's Dominion Theatre.

The show is a musical adaptation of Jeff Pope's award-winning ITV series which starred Sheridan Smith as the red-haired singer.

Organisers say they are looking for a "charismatic and talented actress with a great voice to portray the title role".

Cilla's eldest son, and executive producer of the show, Robert Willis says: "My mum loved singing and performing ever since she was a young girl, and she was determined to do what she loved.

"She was a natural-born performer who lived to entertain her audience.

"We're hopiung to find that person who also dreams big and has the talent to match, but just needs the change to show it."
