Sting musical The Last Ship coming to Liverpool

A musical by Sting which was nominated for awards on Broadway is coming to Liverpool as part of an inaugural UK tour.

The Last Ship, featuring actor Jimmy Nail, will be at the Liverpool Playhouse next April.

The tale is inspired by the singer-songwriter’s childhood memories and demise of the ship-building industry in Wallsend in his native North East.

It has previously been staged in Chicago, and in New York where it was nominated for two prestigious Tony Awards for best original score and best orchestrations.

It was also given a special gala concert performance at The Sage in Gateshead two years ago.

The Northern Stage production is in association with Karl Sydow and Kathryn Schenker, and will be directed by the theatre company’s artistic director Lorne Campbell.

It will form part of the Everyman and Playhouse spring season which is set to be fully revealed next week.

The Last Ship is at the Liverpool Playhouse from April 9-14.
