Outdoor cinema returns to Calderstones this summer with a month-long programme of ‘movies under the stars’.

Wuthering Heights, Back to the Future and La La Land are among the films set to be screened in the Mansion House Garden between July 29 and August 27.

There will also be a Mini Movies series of short films for youngsters shown inside the building each Monday morning during the school summer holidays.

The main season, organised by The Reader, opens on July 19 with Pride, followed by Dirty Dancing (July 30 and again on August 14), Breakfast at Tiffany’s (August 2), Clueless (August 4), Wuthering Heights (August 5), Romeo + Juliet 30th anniversary screening (August 12), Grease (August 13 and 20), La La Land (August 19), Back to the Future (August 26) and Jurassic Park (August 27).

Tickets are £15 for adults and £9.50 for under 16s. Cinemagoers can pre-book deckchairs (£5), candlelit VIP tables for 2-4 people with waiter service (£30) and a range of food and drink.

People who don't want to book deckchairs are invited to bring their own seating. There will also be soundproof headphones and heaters, while in case of rain the cinema space is covered by a giant open-air canopy.

Meanwhile the Mini Movies programme features Zog and the Flying Doctors (July 27), The Scarecrows’ Wedding (August 3), Tabby McTat (August 10), The Smeds & The Smoos (August 17), The Highway Rat (August 24) and The Gruffalo on August 31. Tickets are £9.50.

Jen Chapman, Associate Director of Marketing, Communications & Digital at The Reader, says: “We’re delighted our open-air cinema is back in one of South Liverpool’s most iconic locations and this year we asked the local community for any films they’d like to see on the big screen here. La La Land, Grease, Dirty Dancing and Jurassic Park were all popular requests, and we are so excited to add them to this summer season.

“Audiences are invited into an experience which extends beyond a film screening in our gorgeous Mansion House garden with food, fizz, festoon lighting and a festival feel. Our screenings are cosy, intimate events that aren’t easily forgotten.

“And every ticket helps us deliver our charitable work transforming lives through the power of literature throughout Liverpool and beyond. They’re feel-good films in every sense of the word.”

The Open-Air Cinema season is at Calderstones Mansion from July 29 to August 27. More details and booking HERE
