Flamenco comes to Liverpool's Capstone Theatre

Flamenco with a contemporary twist comes to Liverpool’s Captstone Theatre this week.

Riverdance star Magdalena Manion brings her Flamenco Trio to the venue, on Liverpool Hope’s Creative Campus at Shaw Street, on Friday, July 28 in an event organised by Espiritu Flamenco.

Manion was a soloist on the 2021 Riverdance tour, entertaining audiences with her ‘firedance’, and will here showcase the flamenco repertoire through dance, voice and piano.

Along with Manion, the trio also includes award-winning flamenco pianist and composer Alfonso Aroca, and Elena Morales, a singer (or cantaora) who will perform traditional flamenco song. Both artists come from Cordoba.

The three originally performed together in the Café de Chinitas, one of Madrid’s specialist flamenco venues or ‘tablaos’.

Sarah Chambers of Espiritu Flamenco says: “I love the traditional flamenco and the sheer musicality of these artists. It’s such an exciting artform, with the emphasis on expression of feelings and incredible improvisation.”
