Bridge building in Walton community culture celebration

A spectacular 72ft long bridge is set to form the centrepiece of a free three-day event in the heart of a North Liverpool community next month.

Bridge, taking place in the city’s County ward from August 5-7, will include three days of free activities and two evenings of entertainment.

The 72ft long, 19ft tall bridge structure will be built at Breeze Hill – known locally as ‘the Rezzy’ – a mile north of Goodison Park.

As part of the whole three-day project, people will be encouraged to build their own bridges, using a special kit which will be supplied, and share stories of bridge building.

Community, artists and designers will come together from 10am to 5pm each day in a series of workshops, conversations and activities which look to discover and tell the story of County ward and the people who live there.

People are also being encouraged to stage their own events as part of the Under the Bridge daytime programme.

Then from 8.45 on the evenings of August 6 and 7, there will be a entertainment including circus acrobats, comedy, dance, theatre and live music, again inspired by local people’s stories.

Details about the free tickets will be revealed later this month.

Bridge is produced by Coventry-based company Imagineer Productions and artistic director Orit Azaz.

Azaz says: “The themes of Bridge seem more relevant than ever as we continue to feel the impact of the pandemic on all our lives.

“For us, Bridge offers a means of celebrating creativity and inclusivity as well as allowing us to invite people safely back together outdoors to share fun and playful experiences.

“Bridge also allows us to support artists and creatives through employment opportunities as the outdoor arts sector tentatively, and together, look ahead to a summer of outdoor performances.”
