Birkenhead Park 175 anniversary celebrations launched
Events to mark the 175th anniversary of Birkenhead Park are taking place in the historic green space this weekend.
The park officially opened on April 5, 1852 and was the first publicly funded civic park in the world as well as going on to inspire the design of Central Park in New York.
A series of events are planned throughout 2022, and this Sunday, Day Out in the Park launches the celebrations with a host of activities for all the family.
They include a fun fair, exhibition of historic photographs of the park in the visitor centre – running until May 19, vintage buses from Wirral Transport Museum & Heritage Tramway, a free open house at Park Central Lodge and a sing-a-long session to take part in the 175 Choir.
Meanwhile HYPE is running activities for young people including a family fun dog show, open house at the park’s Grand Entrance with Victorian sweet shop and urban walled garden, a Park Explorers app and balance bikes for the under sixes.
Day Out in the Park is at Birkenhead Park on Sunday, April 10 from 10am to 4pm. For details and times visit the website HERE
