Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker! dances into Liverpool Empire in 2021

Liverpool audiences are in for a sweet treat with Matthew Bourne’s delightful confection Nutcracker! on its way to the Empire next spring.

The show was previously performed at the Lime Street theatre in 2012.

This new, refreshed version will be staged between March 9-13 2021 as part of a national tour.

With family-sized helpings of Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy, Nutcracker! follows Clara’s bittersweet journey from a darkly comic Christmas Eve at Dr Dross’ orphanage, through a shimmering, ice-skating winter wonderland to the scrumptious candy kingdom of Sweetieland.

Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and Anthony Ward’s delicious sets and costumes combine with Bourne’s dazzling choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional Christmas favourite.
