School of Rock makes Liverpool Empire date on first UK tour

Smash hit stage musical School of Rock is heading for the Liverpool Empire as part of its inaugural UK tour.

Dewey Finn and the hard-playing kids of the prestigious Horace Green prep school will be sticking it to the man at the Lime Street theatre from October 18-23 next year.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, with a book by Downton creator Julian Fellowes and lyrics by Glenn Slater, is based on the 2003 musical comedy film starring Jack Black.

It follows the story of Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at the prestigious American prep school.

There he turns a class of precocious straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band – sensationally performed live by the production’s young actors every night with roof-raising energy!

And while teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful, but uptight headmistress, helping her rediscover the wild child within.

The feelgood musical had its premiere on Broadway in 2015, and for the past four years has been running at the (recently renamed) Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End.

Casting for the UK tour is yet to be announced.

School of Rock is at the Liverpool Empire from October 18-23 2021. Tickets on sale soon.
