Frank Skinner Showbiz tour makes Liverpool Empire date

Frank Skinner is bringing his Showbiz tour to the Liverpool Empire this autumn.

The writer, comedian, actor and presenter was due to appear at the theatre on April 23.

But the show - a small number of extra dates he has added following a sold-out five-week run in the West End - has now got a new date of Sunday, October 18. Tickets bought for the April date are still valid.

He said: “The more people like this show the more I want to do it. There were some places I didn’t do on tour and some I did do that sold out extremely quickly. So now I’m refreshed, refuelled, and raring to get back out there.”

Skinner was working as an English teacher when in 1987 he decided to start doing stand-up on the side, spending £400 of his last £435 booking a room at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Four years later he returned to the city and beat fellow nominees Jack Dee and Eddie Izzard to take home comedy’s most prestigious prize, The Perrier Award.

His last live stand-up show, Man In a Suit, sold out its debut run at London’s Soho Theatre and a subsequent five week residency at the Leicester Square Theatre.

Away from the stage, the 63-year-old's recent TV work includes writing and starring as Johnny Cash in Johnny Cash & the Ostrich - a one-off special forming part of the successful Urban Myths series airing on Sky Arts, as well as hosting BBC1’s Room 101. He also has his own show on Absolute Radio.

And Skinner has also topped the charts a record breaking four times alongside Liverpool’s Lightning Seeds and David Baddiel with football anthem Three Lions.
