The Reader is Home for Christmas at Calderstones

The Reader is organising a series of festive events at Calderstones this Christmas.

The Home for Christmas programme includes both free and ticketed events at The Reader’s base in the grade II listed Calderstones Mansion House between now and December 25.

They include free festive craft workshops, a seasonal Daily Reading for each day of advent, musical performances and more – all held together by a thread of literature.

The Night Before Christmas, taking place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at various times promises an interactive, hour-long family adventure, where Clement C Moore's epic poem will be brought to life with surprises, silliness and a sprinkling of yuletide magic. The ticket price includes a book for every child.

A Christmas Choir at Calderstones on Monday, December 9 will see a performance from the pupils of Carleton House Preparatory School for anyone who might not have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends at Christmas.

And Fine Old Christmas, on Sunday, December 15, promises an hour of yuletide music from the Formby Band, with selected seasonal readings.

Free festive pom pom making workshops take place throughout December, along with a free origami decoration making workshop for all ages.

And The Reader’s usual Daily Reading will also take place throughout December with festive and seasonal poems and passages.

Jane Davis, The Reader’s founder and director said: “The warmth, connection and kindness that happens in our Shared Reading groups up and down the country each week is especially important at Christmas, which can be a difficult time for many people.

“Our festive programme will bring all these feelings to life off the page through a mix of meaningful activities and events for people of all ages and walks of life.”

Details of the full programme of festive activities are available on the website HERE.
