St George's Hall celebrates Christmas on stage and screen

Cinema returns to St George’s Hall this Christmas as the Lime Street landmark presents a sleighful of seasonal big screen favourites.

Luna Winter Cinema takes place between December 17 and 23 and festive fans will be able to enjoy Christmas-themed treats including Home Alone, Love Actually, Elf, The Holiday, Die Hard and The Greatest Showman.

And of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without It’s a Wonderful Life.

The films are screened inside the Great Hall and mulled wine, mince pies and hot chocolate are on offer as well as a full bar.

Luna Winter Cinema is one of a host of Christmas-themed events taking place at St George’s Hall over December - in addition to the Christmas market which runs on St George's Plateau from November 16.

Interactive festive family fun comes with the Elf Adventure Challenge, running from November 30 to December 24, in a 50-minute experience suitable for children aged two to 10 and their grown-ups.

The Formby Band, St Anne Stanley Primary School and soloist Ella McKevitt perform Joy to the World in the Concert Room on December 7, while Carols by Lantern Light takes place in the Great Hall on December 8. Mezzo soprano Danielle Thomas, organist Professor Ian Tracey and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Chamber Choir perform.

Martyn Jackson and the Piccadilly Sinfonietta play Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at Christmas by Candlelight on December 13, and the Rhos Male Voice Choir presents A Song for Christmas on December 15.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit from Charles Dickens’ great, great grandson Gerald Dickens (pictured) who will perform A Christmas Carol in the Concert Hall just as his ancestor did 150 years ago. The event takes place on December 18.

And there’s a second chance to catch the classic tale, courtesy this time of Ginificent Productions, from December 19-28.

Finally, there’s a post-Christmas visit from the London Concertante which will evoke a Viennese Christmas by Candlelight on December 28.
