Life is a Cabaret at LIPA
Kander and Ebb’s darkly thought-provoking Weimar Berlin musical Cabaret comes to LIPA this week.
The show, which includes songs like Wilkommen, Maybe This Time, Mein Herr, Money and the title song Cabaret, will be performed by students from different disciplines at the Mount Street college.
Cabaret was premiered on Broadway in 1966 and is based on the 1951 play I Am a Camera which was itself based on Christopher Isherwood’s novella Goodbye to Berlin.
Set in 1931 Berlin as the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (the Nazis) are rising to power, it focuses on the city’s decadently seedy Kit Kat Klub where English cabaret artist Sally Bowles performs, and her relationship with penniless American writer Cliff Bradshaw.
See Cabaret at LIPA from May 2-4. Tickets are £9.50 with £5 concessions HERE
