Red Bull Drift Shifters to thrill Liverpool crowds

Motorsport thrills and spills are coming to the Liverpool waterfront this weekend when the Red Bull Shift Drifters roar in to the city.

A dozen of the world’s best ‘drifters’ will be in Liverpool on Sunday, August 19 to showcase their skills and test their nerve on a custom-made track through the city centre streets.

The exhilarating event is part of Liverpool 2018.

Tickets are now on sale for the biggest event of its kind ever held in the UK, and the first time the drifters have been seen on British soil.

The course, which will take in the city’s world-famous waterfront, will be rigged with advanced proximity and speed sensors.

Spectators will be able to see them manoeuvre their way around the features, scoring points for the speed, angle and proximity of their cars to the obstacles as they go. The closer, the better.

Red Bull Drift Shifters was originally dreamt up by New Zealand professional drifter ‘Mad’ Mike Whiddett and made its debut in Auckland in 2012.

He said today: “It's an amazing venue; it's near twice the size of the last two Red Bull Drift Shifters events and it's got this big D-shape roundabout, so we're really excited to be able to get out and showcase the precision driving of drifting in the UK in such a massive environment.

“The venue also appears in a Fast and Furious movie, so yeah, it's really cool – I can't wait to execute it.”

Tickets for the Liverpool event are £35 for adults and £25 for under 25s, and are available on the website HERE.
