Liverpool Everyman proves it really is First Class

The award-winning Liverpool Everyman has been immortalised on a Royal Mail stamp.

The striking façade of the Hope Street theatre – which won the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize for architecture three years ago – is one of 10 images chosen to celebrate the best of contemporary architecture on the new stamp edition.

It joins other modern landmarks like Birmingham Library, the Eden Project, the Imperial War Museum North at Salford and the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh.

Deborah Aydon (pictured above, right), executive director at Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Theatres, said: “The Everyman was a ten-year labour of love for us all and it’s absolutely thrilling to have it feature on a Royal Mail stamp.

“Liverpool has always been at the heart of what we do, and architects Haworth Tompkins succeeded in making sure our fantastic theatre both welcomes and celebrates all members of our community.

“It’s wonderful that the people of Liverpool depicted on the building are being celebrated in this unique way.”

The new stamps are available from today at www.royalmail.com/landmarkbuildings and 7,000 Post Offices across the UK.
