Christmas Cabaret comes to Liverpool Everyman this festive season

Performance returns to the Liverpool Everyman this December when it becomes the venue for a fortnight of shows featuring the talents of city actors and musicians.

The Hope Street theatre’s auditorium will be transformed into a cabaret club-style space with socially distanced tables and chairs.

From December 10-12, Everyman & Friends will showcase some of the best independent arts organisations from across Liverpool.

There will be performances from Everyman spoken word regulars A Lovely Word, the return of burlesque show DisabiliTease – hosted by Little Peaches and Arielle Firecracker, music from Sense of Sound and ‘entertaining vulgarity’ from Ugly Bucket Theatre Company.

Then from December 17-24, musical director George Francis (Amelie, Fiddler on the Roof, The Big I Am, Miracle on 34th Street) is bringing together songs and performances in a series of New York cabaret club-inspired evenings under the title The Everyman Christmas Cabaret.

The evenings will feature former Everyman Rep company member Emma Bispham along with Gillian Hardie, Kelly Sweeney and Kenny Thompson who will perform musical numbers and festive favourites led by Francis on piano and with musicians Parabhen Lad (bass) and Vidar Norheim (percussion).

Expect a wide range of songs from everyone from Stephen Sondheim to Billy Joel and Shaina Taub to Joni Mitchell as well as some Christmas classics.

Francesca Peschier, new works associate at Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres, said: “This has been a difficult time for theatre, and especially for the freelancers that make live art happen.

“What better way to open our doors again and enjoy being in a space together after 10 months apart than to throw a big party with all our friends?”

Audiences attending either show will receive up-to-date advice in advance of their visit on safety measures in place, to ensure conditions are as Covid-safe as possible in line with Government recommendations.
