Cavern Club launches free live music programme online

The Cavern Club is re-starting its live performance schedule – online.

Tier 3 restrictions mean the famous Mathew Street venue was forced to close its doors again earlier this month, only weeks after it had reopened for the first time since lockdown in March.

Now Cavern bosses have decided to bring back music to the club’s stages and broadcast the acts live on its website, Facebook page and YouTube channel from Monday, November 2.

The Cavern Live….The Beat Goes On will feature live music from noon to 10pm, seven days a week, offering work to musicians and technicians.

It has been made possible with the help of a £525,000 grant from the government’s Cuture Recovery Fund. Half of that sum will go towards the free digital programme.

Cavern Club director Jon Keats said: “Musicians, technicians and crew in the music and entertainment industry are suffering greatly during this pandemic.

“While we can’t offer a live audience at our venues, we’re pleased to be able to provide many of our talented resident artists and sound technicians an opportunity to work through this difficult time.

“Our aim, of course is to get a live audience back with us as soon as it is safe to, but until then the beat will go on…online!

"We hope it brings a bit of joy to the many music lovers around the world who can’t get to live gigs right now, and with whom we share the same passion.”

The Cavern Live...The Beat Goes On will start on November 2.
