Liverpool Royal Court Selection Box promises theatregoers seasonal fun

Liverpool’s Royal Court is promising theatregoers a ‘selection box’ of treats this Christmas.

The Roe Street theatre is staging a festive show which will embrace both music and comedy.

A host of familiar favourites have been signed up to appear on stage, with a core cast of half-a-dozen appearing each night, and faces changing throughout the run.

They include Roy Brandon, Eithne Browne, Jamie Clarke, Michael Fletcher, Stephen Fletcher, Lindzi Germain, Cath Rice, Andrew Schofield, Hayley Sheen, Michael Starke, Keddy Sutton and Liam Tobin with more being added.

The Selection Box has been developed and directed by Stephen Fletcher with additional material by the cast. Musical direction is by Howard Gray.

Theatre bosses revealed their seasonal plans earlier this autumn after receiving a £729,915 lifeline from the Government's Culture Recovery Fund.

Royal Court executive producer Kevin Fearon said: “After the year we’ve all had it is a real treat to know that we are going to have an audience back in the building. We can’t wait to see all of the cast, crew and our regulars back enjoying themselves.

“Everybody has been really understanding as we’ve moved shows and tickets around so it feels good to give them something back.

“We have got plans in place for more shows in the new year so if all goes well over Christmas we can look forward to a busy 2021.”

Covid-safe measures will be followed both front of house and backstage, with social distancing, temperature checks, enhanced table service and one-way systems. Audience members will be asked to wear masks while not in their seats.

Group sizes will be six or under, and people must be from the same household or social bubble.

Ticket exchanges of refunds will be available if performances are cancelled or if someone is unable to attend because of Covid-19.

Royal Court Selection Box runs until January 9.
