Liverpool dot-art gallery showcases two new colourful exhibitions

September 18, 2020

Liverpool gallery dot-art is behind two new exhibitions on show in the city this autumn including one at Liverpool Cathedral.

View from a Window, which opens next week at its own gallery space in Queen Arcade, off Castle Street, features a new collection from dot-art members who spent their time in lockdown earlier this year capturing the view from their windows.

Meanwhile the gallery has collaborated with Liverpool Cathedral (which has just been recognised in the top 10% of worldwide visitor attractions by Tripadvisor) on a second show as part of a new residency partnership.

Expression Through Colour, which opened in the Derby Transept earlier in September, showcases pieces by artists Nathan Pendlebury and Ali Barker.

The pair celebrate “the potential of colour, abstraction, movement and music within their bright highly charged compositions” which on sunny days are bathed in extra hues from the light streaming through the cathedral’s stained-glass windows.

Speaking about View from a Window, dot-art’s Lucy Byrne says: “Life in lockdown has been an exercise in resilience, patience and strength and while isolation has not been easy, it’s been incredible to see the dot-art community adapt and overcome the many obstacles caused by COVID-19.

“We hope that this exhibition will give us all the opportunity to reflect on our experiences in lockdown, remember lessons learnt and appreciate how art and creativity can help get us through even the darkest of times.

“This inspiring group show of 16 artists work covers everything from suburban gardens to wild mountains to city architecture.”

View from a Window is at dot-art in Queen Avenue from September 26 to November 21. Opening times are 10am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Expression Through Colour is at Liverpool Cathedral until October 28. The cathedral is open from 11am-3pm Monday to Saturday, and 12.30-3pm on Sundays. Visitors need to pre-book HERE
