New Liverpool dates for Strictly Ballroom the Musical
The live stage musical version of Baz Luhrmann’s hit film Strictly Ballroom has announced new tour dates – including its Liverpool run.
The show, directed by Craig Revel Horwood and starring Strictly professional Kevin Clifton, WAS due to run at the Empire from April 26 to May 1 2021.
But now producers have postponed the entire 35-venue tour, which is rescheduled to start in autumn next year instead.
The new Liverpool dates are May 16-21 2022.
Anyone who has already bought tickets will have them automatically exchanged for new dates – details will be released in the coming weeks.
Strictly Ballroom the Musical tells the story of Scott Hastings, a talented, arrogant and rebellious young ballroom dancer.
When Scott’s radical dance moves see him fall out of favour with the Australian Federation, he finds himself dancing with Fran, a beginner with no moves at all.
Inspired by one another, this unlikely pair gather the courage to defy both convention and their families – and discover that, to be winners, the steps don’t need to be strictly ballroom…
The musical is written by Baz Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, and the soundtrack includes well-known numbers like Love is in the Air, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps and Time After Time as well as new songs from Sia, David Foster and Eddie Perfect.
Kevin Clifton said: “I’m really delighted the Strictly Ballroom tour has been rescheduled. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s my all-time favourite film and Scott Hastings is my dream role, so I can’t wait to bring this musical to theatres across the UK next year.
"In the meantime, please stay safe and keep well everyone.”
Strictly Ballroom the Musical comes to the Liverpool Empire from May 16-21 2022.
