Enjoy LightNight Liverpool 2020 at Home

LightNight Liverpool might not be drawing crowds on to the city’s streets this week – but it is offering a digital evening of cultural treats.

The theme for this year’s free late-night arts festival was due to be Home, and now it will be celebrating the city’s culture at homes across Liverpool and beyond.

From 5pm on Friday, May 15 the hashtag #LightNightatHome on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram will be a place to share and view work by Liverpool’s creatives that would have formed part of LightNight 2020.

People can take part in an activity including artwork conceived by local artist Laura-Kate Chapman, who was originally commissioned to create a special installation at the Museum of Liverpool for the night. Instead, she is inviting people of all ages to participate in making a 3D house or poster that creatively explores what home means to you, and to share those creations online.

Meanwhile Bluecoat will recreate the LightNight experience through a variety of digital works including: Learn to animate your Houseplants, enjoy a Story Telling Session from Funny Looking Kids, watch a video of the LightNight house band the Halcyon Sycopators (famous for their courtyard concerts) plus a Virtual Open Studios video collage and a Make Yourself at Home inspired playlist from resident DJ and artistic director Bryan Biggs.

Charlotte Corrie, director of Open Culture which organises the annual event, said: “We chose the theme of ‘Home’ for LightNight 2020 well over a year ago, because it encompasses a broad scope of ideas that we can all relate to.

“We never expected that our theme would become even more resonant during this unprecedented lockdown, and whilst LightNight cannot be replicated virtually we want to provide a platform for a night of sharing, creativity and inspiration.”
