Liverpool Philharmonic becomes latest city venue to close doors

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic has cancelled all its performances as of today and “for the foreseeable future”.

That includes concerts at the Philharmonic Hall, in the Music Room and at St George’s Hall.

The RLPO and conductor Vasily Petrenko were due to perform the latest concert in its Mahler cycle this Saturday, and there were due to be concerts by Ensemble 10/10 and Liverpool String Quartet over the next few days.

A statement on the Philharmonic’s website said: “At this point, we have no information as to when we will re-open.

“We enter a period of unprecedented uncertainty. The health of everyone working for or visiting Liverpool Philharmonic will always be our priority. Over the next few weeks and months, we will do everything we can to support our artists, staff and community.”

The Phil is a charity which relies on ticket sales for a large part of its income, and bosses are asking that anyone who is able to consider donating the price of their tickets, or another amount.
