The Commitments bring soul back to Liverpool

October 11, 2019

The hardest working band in the world are returning to Liverpool – but you’ll have to wait until 2021 to see them.

The Commitments musical is set to bring some soul to the Liverpool Empire as part of a new UK tour.

Deco, Outspan, Imelda, Jimmy Rabbitte and co will appear on the Lime Street stage from May 20-15 2021.

Roddy Doyle’ The Commitments started life in 1987 as a best-selling book and four years later was then turned in to a hit film. The stage musical received its West End premiere in 2013 and was last seen in Liverpool two years ago.

The Commitments tells the story of Jimmy Rabbitte, a young working-class music fan who transforms an unlikely bunch of amateur musicians into an amazing live act, which becomes the finest soul band Dublin has ever produced.

The musical features an eclectic soundtrack of more than 20 soul classics played live on stage including Try A Little Tenderness, River Deep, Mountain High, In The Midnight Hour, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Save Me, I Can’t Turn You Loose and Mustang Sally.

Roddy Doyle said: “I’m delighted that The Commitments is coming back. I’ve been saying for years that Mustang Sally is a traditional Irish song and this new tour will help prove my point.”

The Commitments is at the Liverpool Empire from May 10-15 2021. Tickets HERE
