A Love Letter to Liverpool at the Philharmonic Hall

Jennifer Johnston will sing her Love Letter to Liverpool in two intimate concerts at the Philharmonic Hall this weekend.

The in-demand city-born mezzo soprano, who performed in the opening concert of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall this summer, will showcase favourite songs connected with Liverpool at the events in the Music Room on September 29-30.

The concerts mark the start of Johnston's artist in residence season with the RLPO which will also see her perform with the full orchestra at Hope Street as well as in recital at St George's Hall.

And it also launches her new debut album - similarly titled A Love Letter to Liverpool - and which features songs including Pete McGovern's In My Liverpool Home, Liverpool Lullaby, Amazing Grace, The Leaving of Liverpool and You'll Never Walk Alone.

Johnston, who was the guest soloist at last season's Spirit of Christmas concerts and as a teenager sang with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir, says: "I'm thrilled that my debut album is a tribute to my home city, its music and its people.

"I'm proud to be a Scouser, and still make Liverpool my home, so becoming Artist in Residence with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is a huge honour.”

Along with the two concerts, on Monday September 30, Johnston will also perform a lunchtime recital at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Alder Hey and the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company will benefit from the album's profits.
