RLPO makes Birkenhead Park date for Wirral culture year

The RLPO will take to the stage in Birkenhead Park this September in its only outdoor concert of the year.

The orchestra will be joined by Liverpool-born international mezzo soprano Jennifer Johnston and conductor Richard Balcombe in the performance on September 7.

The event is part of the Wirral Borough of Culture celebrations and tickets are on sale now.

Music fans can expect a programme of popular classics, show tunes and film soundtracks from composers as diverse as Holst, Bizet, John Williams and Lennon and McCartney.

The concert will last for around 80 minutes with no interval.

Jennifer Johnston said: “What a delight to perform with this wonderful orchestra in such a beautiful local setting, celebrating both the music of Merseyside and Wirral’s Borough of Culture year. I’m looking forward to seeing lots of familiar faces in the audience.”

And Cllr Christine Spriggs, Wirral Cabinet Member for Culture and Tourism, added: “We’re thrilled the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s only outdoor concert in 2019 will take place in treasured Birkenhead Park.”

Tickets are £15 with concessions £12.50 and up to two children under the age of 16 can attend free with every adult ticket bought. Children's tickets should be ordered in advance.
