River of Light returns to the Mersey for 2018

The River of Light firework extravaganza is set to return to the Mersey tonight.

River of Light: The Elements in association with Royal Liver Building 360 is now in its third year, and also forms the finale of the China Dream season staged as part of Liverpool 2018.

The jaw-dropping display - which starts at 6.30pm - comes from Titanium Fireworks, who entertained crowds who flocked to both sides of the river last year. An estimated 110,000 people saw the display.

Fireworks will be set off from the water’s edge as well as from giant barges floating on the Mersey, and will be accompanied by a soundtrack played from key areas and venues along the waterfront.

The synchronised soundtrack will embrace the four elements with music played including David Guetta ft Sia's Titanium (metal), Adele's Water Under the Bridge, and Earth Song by the late Michael Jackson.

Along with the spectacular aerial displays, in Liverpool there will be a series of arts installations themed around the five elements that underpin Chinese philosophy: water, fire, earth, metal and wood.

Meanwhile in Wirral, the event will be held once again in New Brighton, with entertainment for all the family including the appearance of ghostly pirates on the resort’s Black Pearl.

Family events run from 4pm to 6.30pm around the waterfront, while there will also be a number of road closures in place including The Strand.

Titanium Fireworks is the team behind acclaimed national events including the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve party, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, the launch of Hull’s City of Culture year and the opening ceremony for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
