Giants make a dream return to Liverpool

May 10, 2018

Liverpool 2018 is set to reach a towering finale this autumn with the return of the Giants to the city.

Royal de Luxe will pay a third visit to Liverpool following its Titanic-themed extravaganza in 2012 and its remembrance of the First World War in 2014.

Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to the streets on each previous occasion to see the Little Girl Giant, her dog Xolo and a giant diver (in 2012), and the return of the Little Girl alongside her grandmother in 2014.

It is yet to be revealed which Giants the Nantes-based street theatre company will bring with them this October, or the story they will tell. But it will be under the title of Liverpool’s Dream.

And it will also be a story which will cross the Mersey to take in both the Liverpool and Wirral sides of the river.

The free Giant spectacular will take place from Thursday, October 4 to Sunday, October 7.

Royal de Luxe founder and artistic director, Jean Luc Courcoult, said: “We love Liverpool and can’t wait to return.

“The welcome we receive from the people of the city warms our hearts and we are excited about not only bringing a new story to Liverpool, but also to exploring beautiful Wirral for the first time.

“As it will be our last Giant show here we think it will be very special, and we hope people will enjoy our final farewell to the city which is our second home.”

And Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson added: “Since the Giants left us nearly four years ago, we have been approached hundreds of times by people asking when they are going to return.

“We always wanted the Giant spectaculars to be a trilogy, but the final instalment had to be at the right time, with the right story – and what better than for it to take place in a year in which we celebrate how culture has transformed the city.

“To be able to share the Giants with Wirral will give this chapter an added, exciting dimension and a whole new backdrop for these huge, larger than life characters to perform in.”
