LIPA's Red and Black takes theatre on to the streets

May 7, 2018

LIPA students have joined forces with Slung Low Theatre Company to create a special promenade performance being staged in the city this month.

More than 100 dancers, actors, musicians, community drama performers and facilitators from LIPA’s second year courses will take their audience from the Mount Street college out on to the streets to tell a moving story from Liverpool’s history.

Red and Black is inspired by the Spanish Civil War of the 1930s, a conflict which itself inspired artists and left a powerful legacy of poetry, painting, music and film.

And the production aims to vividly depict how Liverpool responded.

Slung Low, which creates theatre and performances in unexpected places, has form in Liverpool, with the Leeds-based company having been behind the acclaimed Anthology with the Everyman in 2010, and having created the old Hope Street theatre’s closing night before its demolition in 2011.

Red and Black takes place from May 21-26 at 7pm and 9pm each evening. Tickets £9.50 and £5 HERE
