Double bill of Shakespeare at Epstein Theatre

March 19, 2018

The Bard is coming to the Epstein Theatre in a double bill of comedy and tragedy.

Daniel Taylor Productions presented an immersive version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Hanover Street theatre last year. Now the company is returning with the supernatural favourite paired with the story of star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet.

The plays will be staged in repertory between April 11 and 21.

Actor/director Taylor, who Liverpool audiences will know for his role as Sammy in Blood Brothers among other credits, will reprise his performance as Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Romeo and Juliet is being relocated from fair Verona to 1880s Liverpool, and the adaptation by Trisha Duffy will explore the destructive impact of religious sectarianism.

Young Liverpool actors James Ledsham, who recently appeared in Those Two Weeks at the Unity, and Faye Griffiths, will take on the leading roles in Shakespeare’s great tragedy about two young people from warring families who fall in love with devastating consequences.

Taylor says: “Bringing Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the Epstein Theatre last year was a huge success, it shows our commitment to bringing the classics to life and in a venue accessible to everyone.

“After receiving such amazing and humbling feedback, we were keen to build on this further – so we’ll be back bigger and better for spring 2018 with two productions.

“Romeo and Juliet is the greatest love story ever told and, with its tragedy and heartache, it will fully complement the fun and mischief in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Tickets for both productions are available from the Epstein website HERE
