Morality meets mortality at Liverpool's Unity Theatre

A dark comedy about morality and mortality receives its UK premiere in Liverpool next week before being staged in London.

Dead and Breathing, which is coming to the Unity Theatre from February 7, stars Kim Tatum, aka Mzz Kimberley, recently seen in ITV's warmly-received Transformation Street.

Carolyn Whitlock (Lizan Mitchell) has been sick with cancer for almost as long as she can remember, and it’s made her so mean that there’s no one left who loves her.

All she wants to do is to die and be free of the pain. But to do that she has to convince her Christian nurse Veronika (Tatum) to help her.

Can she do it? It wouldn’t be easy at the best of times, but it becomes almost impossible when Carolyn finds a final hurdle she must overcome.

Sheltered and judgemental, the elderly Caroline is repulsed by transsexuals, and Veronika happens to be one.

So she will not only have to convince Veronika to do something that goes against her every belief. She will also need to choose what she calls "death by tranny".

The play is written by Chisa Hutchinson and directed by Rebecca Atkinson-Lord who previously collaborated on the award-winning short film Domesticity, and is a co-production between Arch 468, the Unity and London's Albany Theatre.
