Book a place at Liverpool's Smithdown Litfest 2017


Literature lovers should check out the line-up for the 2017 Smithdown Litfest which takes place in South Liverpool from this weekend.

Playwright, author and screenwriter Jonathan Harvey, novelist Jane Costello and footballer Howard Gayle are among those taking part in the nine-day event which starts on Friday, September 29.

Readings and in conversations will take place at community venues in what is termed the Smithdown Road ‘corridor’, including Toxteth Library, the Unitarian Church and Dovedale Towers.

Hillsborough Project director Prof Phil Scraton, novelist June Francis, Monster Odyssey author Jon Mayhew, prize-winning psychological thriller writer Margaret Murphy – who also writes under the pen name A D Garrett, and crime writer and Scott & Bailey author Cath Staincliffe are also taking part.

Litfest is the idea of Ian Skillicorn, who runs independent publishing company Corazon Books, and whose family connections with the area go back several generations.

It is being organised through a not-for-profit community interest company Stories Unlimited.

Tickets are free but need to be booked in advance.
