Walker extends the Linda McCartney Retrospective into 2021

Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery is extending the run of its acclaimed Linda McCartney exhibition due to demand from visitors. The major retrospective was due to shut its doors on November 1. But now gallery bosses have decided to extend the show until January next year. The Linda McCartney Retrospective, which was first staged at the Kelvingrove art gallery in Glasgow, features around 250 photographs taken by and featuring the late photographer during a four-decade career. The Reader is capturing Covid memories from the community

Liverpool’s The Reader is encouraging people to share their stories of living through the coronavirus pandemic for a new community scrapbook of memories. The Commonplace Book will capture the individual ways people have found to cope with the crisis and preserve their memories for future generations. The history of the ‘Commonplace Book’ goes back many centuries to Ancient Greece and Rome. They were particularly popular during the Renaissance, and writers like John Milton, Fr

Review: Roderick Williams in recital at Liverpool Philharmonic ****

It may have been a dismal evening in Liverpool – in more ways than one – but with strict Covid measures in place the only risk of contagion at the Philharmonic Hall was from Roderick Williams’ infectious enthusiasm. The British baritone - and this season's Artist in Residence - beamed as he told the Phil faithful (masked and dotted in bubbles around the auditorium): “How wonderful to see you here. What a huge pleasure it is to be performing live music for you in this extraord

The money means the Royal Court will now look at staging a scaled back, socially distanced, Covi

Review: Rebecca Tong conducts the RLPO at Philharmonic Hall ****

Who knew listening to live music in the – albeit socially distanced – company of others could prove such an emotional experience? Because despite the inventive and innovative ways orchestras like the RLPO (and theatre makers too of course) have found to keep performances going over the last few difficult months, nothing beats the visceral nature of the live shared experience. And with Merseyside staring down the barrel of harsh news Covid restrictions again, concerts like thi

Steve Price conjures Magic on the Mersey at Aloft Liverpool

Magician Steve Price promises to mix world class conjuring with a good dose of comedy when he brings his new live show to Liverpool this autumn. The cruise ship favourite may have been on extended shore leave since the Coronavirus pandemic took hold earlier this year, but he hasn’t been sitting twiddling his thumbs. Instead he has devised Magic on the Mersey, an astonishing new (Covid-safe) show promising ‘gasps behind the masks’ which he is now due to premiere at Liverpool’s
